Where my software calls home
At least I always thought demos were free?

I showed my cousin this great game and he was interested; but he said he wanted to try it out before plunking down any money for it. So I told him he could download the *free* demo from here; but he informed me and then I checked it out and he was right; because when you click on the supposed *FREE* demo it takes you to flip planet web site to do the download and guess what? Yep, to download the demo you have to *PAY* for a membership before you can download the free demo. So what is the deal? I mean you would probably get a lot more people to buy the game if they can download and play a ***F R E E*** demo first.

You don't have to subscribe to File Planet's premium services to get access to demos. You do have to create an account there - but it costs nothing.

The membership is if you want fast downloads; I have a membership to file planet. The regular servers are free, but don't be surprised if it takes 2 hours + to download the demo.

Wow... I mean, wow...

You don't have to download the demo from File Planet, it's also available from gamershell.com and elsewhere. Good luck!

I found it on download.com; but as for file planet I could not find a free download there or a free membership

Gamershell.com IS free and doesn't require an account!

File planet is free with an account. I found my *really* old Gamespy account worked there a few years back. Still use it and it's an email address I no longer have. Free download just means you get put in a queue. I've downloaded a ton of Oblivion mods via Fileplanet, all free.

Talk about old acounts, when I installed DA, and went to get the updates from star dock and then loged onto my account here to make my empire, it said that I had been a member since 2004, then I remembered that I had regestered with Stardock some years ago for some of their free desktop tweaking utilities. I wonder if some people think if and when they look at my profile think that I have been playing this for years when I have only been playing since the 17th

Yeah, I hear this alot, people ranting on how file planet isn't free.

Just make a gamespy ID, and you'll be able to log in at file planet.
